Five Minute Friday: Comfort

by SweetMidlife

Leslie here! Today’s “Five Minute Friday” word is comfort.

Back in her MTV days, when she was still playing the ditzy Southern girl newlywed card and not today’s mega-successful designing momma card, I had the opportunity to interview Jessica Simpson. I asked her what her favorite part of marriage was, and was sure she’d say “Being able to have sex” or “Tuna” or “The opportunity to exploit my sacred union for fun and profit.”

But instead, she said “Comfort. And by that I don’t mean complacency – I mean that there’s a comfort in knowing that you’re with the same person, and that this is your home.”

She’s smarter than she used to let on!

I don’t know if I was more surprised that the queen of Chicken of the Sea had such a complex definition of marriage, or that it made eloquent sense. Of course, she and Nick Lachey are no longer a thing, so I guess comfort wasn’t enough. But it made me think about my favorite things about my own marriage, which is that there is comfort in having my someone, my Plus 1, my party buddy and my cuddle bunny and my best friend, all rolled in one. I don’t have to look anymore, or “be out there,” which got old. Scott is my home. He is my comfort. He is not a boy band star. But I don’t need it.

And that’s comforting.

If you can’t find comfort in your husband you need to re-evaluate. That’s a great sentiment from her.
